Papercutting for Lightboxes Tues 13 November 2018

The cost of the day includes an artisan lunch, tea and coffees, and all tools and materials. Please note that the House is closed for conservation and there will be no tour included. Suitable for all levels.

Renowned artist Su Blackwell will lead you through this magical, wintery workshop, transforming images into a three-dimensional papercut light box. Use light to illuminate delicate and precise scenes made with photographic cut-outs or paintings. The perfect addition to liven up your home during long, dark winter evenings. Suitable for all levels.

About the tutor:

Su has exhibited her exquisite sculptures around the world. Su says of her work…"I often work within the realm of fairy-tales and folk-lore. I began making a series of book-sculpture, cutting-out images from old books to create three-dimensional diorama's, and displaying them inside wooden boxes".

"For the cut-out illustrations, I tend to lean towards young-girl characters, placing them in haunting, fragile settings, expressing the vulnerability of childhood, while also conveying a sense of childhood anxiety and wonder. There is a quiet melancholy in the work, depicted in the material used, and choice of subtle colour."

Su has designed art fabric for Liberty London, and the set for The Rose Theatre's production of 'The Snow Queen'. In December 2017 she exhibited a Dicken’s inspired installation at Chatsworth House and is preparing for her first solo show in London in Autumn 2018. Her illustrated book of fairy tales 'The Fairytale Princess', written by Wendy Jones, and published by Thames & Hudson was released in 2012.
