SW | The Letters Of Sylvia Plath - Sunday 1 Oct

Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) was one of the writers defined the course of twentieth century poetry. Faber’s landmark publication of the first volume of her selected Letters illuminates Plath’s early life in her own candid words: the hobbies and boyfriends of her adolescence; her successful yet turbulent undergraduate years at Smith College; the move to England and Cambridge University; and her meeting and marrying Ted Hughes, including unseen letters post-honeymoon, revealing the beginnings of their extraordinary creative partnership. Olivier Award-winning actress Eve Best, who played Vanessa Bell in Life in Squares, will read from a selection of Plath’s letters. Sarah Churchwell, Professorial Fellow in American Literature and Chair of Public Understanding of the Humanities at the School of Advanced Study, will contextualise these most personal of insights into one of the truly great, yet tragic, writers of the last 100 years.
