The cost of the day includes a tour of the House and Garden, an artisan lunch, tea and coffees, and all tools and materials. Suitable for all levels.

Learn how to make an exquisite, concertina card, which could be posted as a greeting card, given as a gift, or framed and treasured forever. Su Blackwell will guide you through each of the stages from design to completion.

While the workshop is suitable for beginners, the skills taught can be incorporated into more ambitious projects.

Paper cutting skills with scalpel blade will be demonstrated, and participants will be guided through the cut-out of their design, building up colour and texture. A variety of different colours of card will be made available, but participants are free to bring their own papers and card if they wish.

If time allows, participants will make a slip case using artist's template to protect their finished art-work.

About the tutor

Su has exhibited her exquisite sculptures around the world. Su says of her work…"I often work within the realm of fairy-tales and folk-lore. I began making a series of book-sculpture, cutting-out images from old books to create three-dimensional diorama's, and displaying them inside wooden boxes".

"For the cut-out illustrations, I tend to lean towards young-girl characters, placing them in haunting, fragile settings, expressing the vulnerability of childhood, while also conveying a sense of childhood anxiety and wonder. There is a quiet melancholy in the work, depicted in the material used, and choice of subtle colour."

Su has designed art fabric for Liberty London, and the set for The Rose Theatre's production of 'The Snow Queen'. In December 2017 she exhibited a Dicken’s inspired installation at Chatsworth House and is preparing for her first solo show in London in Autumn 2018. Her illustrated book of fairy tales 'The Fairytale Princess', written by Wendy Jones, and published by Thames & Hudson was released in 2012.
